Tweet 5.3 - Systems Malfunction Good morning, Arkansas. annablue June 6, 2016 No Comments on Good morning, Arkansas. This is my view of Little Rock Arkansas, as I sit here with my morning cigarette, pondering life and the meaning of it, the 3-hour drive home , and the annoying fact that I have to redo my blog on another web host. It’s a beautiful day, we’re close to home, and I’m very tired. Not much else to say right now besides that. It’s been a really, really, really good trip. Now it’s time to go rearrange real life to suit us. ?? Tweet 2.2.5 - Road Trip #1: Space Coast, FL Testing again… annablue June 2, 2016 No Comments on Testing again… Because one successful test does not indicate that the app won’t suddenly begin returning Forbidden errors again… Shall I tell you about our trip to Hogwarts? Or about the twelve hours of projectile vomiting I endured afterwards? Nah, I think I’ll stick to Falcon return photos: Tweet 9.9.9 - Things I Recklessly Neglected To Categorize Testing annablue June 2, 2016 No Comments on Testing Namecheap, insisting that they DO support WordPress, has requested that I attempt to use the app again. So, here goes: Tweet 2.2.5 - Road Trip #1: Space Coast, FL Update annablue May 28, 2016 No Comments on Update So we’re all happy (though exhausted!) and having a great time. However, Namecheap (my blog host) is very suddenly not letting me update my blog via the phone app. Since computer access is spotty for me, this means I probably won’t be able to update til I get home. And since travel blogging was the reason I opened this account, I’ll probably be moving web hosts when I return, because this sort of sudden and persistent inconvenience does not facilitate my general happiness or relentless positivity. In the meantime, updates on our trip can be found on my Twitter: Suggest you tune in there. Tweet 9.9.9 - Things I Recklessly Neglected To Categorize Launches and lunches and rental car woes (resolved) annablue May 24, 2016 No Comments on Launches and lunches and rental car woes (resolved) So it’s been a great day so far, here in Port Canaveral. The 44th Space Congress is in full swing – a great opening speech by Bob Cabana, and an very interesting panel on the Commercial Crew Program, followed by a lunch that, while not living up to three standards set by Nathan’s cooking, was still pretty dang tasty – and, following the intervention on social media, the Enterprise rent a car situation has been resolved; my boys swapped out the car for a Dodge that Chris says has more leg room. What this means is that when the day ends, I will be able to luxuriate in the hot tub with no cares or stress to get between me and the lovely, lovely hot water. Or at least, so far so good. There’s always room for things to go wrong… but I choose to be relentlessly positive. Now I’ve got a bit of a break, which I intend to use to maximum advantage. Not sure what that means yet. Will find out as I go along. Before there can be Launch, there must be Lunch. Tweet 2.2.5 - Road Trip #1: Space Coast, FL, 3 - Food Glorious Food Another wonderful day, punctuated by extreme annoyance… annablue May 23, 2016 No Comments on Another wonderful day, punctuated by extreme annoyance… So today was awesome! Well, mostly. But let me start at the beginning. The first thing I did when I woke up this morning, naturally, was to call Kennedy Space Center to see if they had put lc39 viewing tickets up for sale. And they did! But their systems were acting very screwy, so I had a nerve-wracking 20 minutes before the transaction went through. Yay! So, merrily, we headed to Kennedy Space Center, parked in the lot, got out of the car, and noticed for the first time but the tags on a rental car had expired last month. Isn’t that a wonderful thing to find out after you’ve driven from Arkansas to Florida? Isn’t it great to know that you could have been pulled over for expired tag at any time? That’s sarcasm, by the way, for anyone who didn’t pick up on that. Swallowing our irritation, we made our way to guest services, where we found out that launch tickets were not being sold on-premises, and that they were nearly gone, despite the fact that they had never sent out the email saying that they would be available. Chalk up another win for obsessive intensity! Then we set about buying annual passes for the boys. Which should have been straightforward. Except, of course, the computer mysteriously malfunctioned as soon as they started processing Nathan’s pass. No worries, we were simply told to come back later to pick up the passes, and given temporary passes to use in the meantime. But there’s another petty annoyance right there. What followed was a glorious interval of sharing my favorite place with my favorite people, as we wandered around Kennedy Space Center taking in the Rocket Garden and enjoying the Inside KSC tour. We had a truly awesome time , and everything was wonderful , right up to the moment Nathan got sick. That kind of sucked. But we weathered the storm, made our way back to the hotel comma whereupon I began trying to unravel the Enterprise Rent-A-Car problem. Now, you would imagine that a rental car company that had rented a car with expired tags would be bending over backwards to remedy the situation? Yeah, not so much. My favorite part of the ensuing debacle was when the woman on the phone told me that cops never take it rented cars, and that I shouldn’t worry about it. So, yeah, escalating that as high as it can go, because renting a car with expired tags is kind of a big deal and I don’t appreciate employees of the rental car company making light of the situation. As I was digging through the rental car problem , I got a text letting me know that a new bcharge had been placed on my credit card. This is normal; I have my account set up to notify me of all new authorizations. What isn’t normal is getting charges from the Microsoft store. I don’t buy anything from Microsoft. So, in the middle of a two-week road trip, I had to cancel my credit card for fraud. Fortunately, Capital One is pretty awesome , and are fedexing me a new card in 2 to 3 business days. Unfortunately, I have to remember all the recurring charges that are being billed to that card number and change them. Which, of course, is exactly what I want to have to do in the middle of a two-week vacation. Hint: that was sarcasm too. In conclusion: we had an awesome day, except for the parts that weren’t. The mantra of Relentless Positivity has gotten quite a workout in the last few hours. Nevertheless, life goes on, and continues to be awesome. I will not allow it to be otherwise. Here, enjoy some pictures of our awesome day. Me and thee at the VAB Tweet 2.2.5 - Road Trip #1: Space Coast, FL, 5.7 - Family An Afternoon In Bree annablue May 21, 2016 No Comments on An Afternoon In Bree Our trip is officially underway, and we are halfway there, at the Georgia Renaissance Festival in Fairburn Georgia. There’s been a little bit of rain today, but right now it is sunny and hot. We are having a glorious time, wondering around and looking at all the things that we would dearly love to buy. So far, we have been incredibly restrained, and only bought food. I do think that there may be a fluffy poofy Renaissance dress in my near future… … Oh, look, there it is. We had a glorious time! Watched fire-eaters and the joust, are corn on the cob and steak on a stake, bought me Renaissance garb OMG FINALLY after years of wanting it, and capped the day with a trip to Cracker Barrel for a dinner that I was too tired to eat. Plans for the remainder of the evening are very likely to include a long soak in the hot tub. Then, tomorrow: a million hours and light years of car travel, and Port Canaveral. I can’t wait! Having a wonderful time with my boys, and it’s only going to get better from here! Tweet 2.2.5 - Road Trip #1: Space Coast, FL Road Trip #1, T -2 days annablue May 18, 2016 No Comments on Road Trip #1, T -2 days In the calm before the storm, I sit here musing over the things left to do before we leave, and the wonder of the fact that we’re doing this at all. You know: taking a road trip. One in which I might actually do a tiny bit of the driving. I’ve pretty much decided that we’re getting a car when we get back. But that will be a separate adventure. So now I have my very own chef, stylist and chauffeur, which is to say that Chris is the sort of driver I can relax and feel safe with when I’m too jittery to drive myself, and Nathan is a genius in the kitchen and a marvel with hair. Though perhaps I should wait to say that until he finishes with mine: the last stage of the process is still pending, in which we layer bright Pravana blue over the natural blue of the rest of my hair. Because I have “natural” blue hair now. Yes. I have seen rockets launch and land, on lands and boats, but I quiver to behold the glory of a world where I can buy natural-looking, permanent blue hair dye. Truly, such wonders I could never have imagined… But I digress, if that could be said to be a thing on a blog which is named after the blueness of my damn hair in the first place. Anyway, I meant to talk about the trip. Today is laundry day, and packing day, in which I wallow in the luxury of being able to pack for an overland trip instead of cramming for air travel, and (undoubtedly) come to discover that I still don’t have room for all my stuff. This is a little bit hilarious because of the fact that of the three of us, I am perhaps the least concerned with my day-to-day appearance. But I sure do have a lot of clothes, and they all seem to involve layers and layers of flowy fabric that have to be folded, rolled, or otherwise tamed to submission to fit in a suitcase. On the plus side, perhaps once I’ve packed, I’ll be able to more clearly assess what’s left of my wardrobe and see what the hell I can get rid of. I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t have room in my life anymore for things I don’t love, and so I’m actively working to trim my belongings down to that level. Except, y’know, for necessities – I don’t need to love a frying pan to be able to cook an egg in it. Or, more likely, for Nathan to elevate eggs to an art form in it. I’m not sure I’ve cooked once since they intersected with my life, except for maybe making myself a bowl of cereal in the quiet hours before they wake up. It’s very, very nice, being taken care of… But I digress again, I suppose, because I’m not meaning to focus on the huge, sweeping changes in my life just yet. There’s plenty of time for that. But only roughly 48 hours until we leave. Today there should be a massive load of packages arriving from Jeffy’s online five-and-dime, including dog bowls and a blanket for Sookie, and more supplies for our picnic basket. Because I’ve always dreamed of being able to have impromptu, ridiculous picnics, with proper plates and silverware like a kid playing tea party, and so I am amassing a basket of picnic supplies which will (eventually) live in the trunk of the car I’m gonna get, and which I’m planning (hopefully) to tuck into a corner of the rental for the trip. It’s a small thing, but one that tickles my fancy, and I do love having my fancy tickled. ?? At the point when the packages come in, we’ll be able to assess things and see if there’s anything else we need for the trip that we can’t count on getting along the way. Then there’ll be nothing to be done but cuddle Kitteh and wait til it’s time to leave. I say that as if I expect to have copious spare time for reflection, when I’m pretty sure we’ll all be frantically busy right up to the moment we get in the car and wave goodbye. But now Kitteh is gazing at me reproachfully and wondering why breakfast is late, so I shall attend to that first. Further updates as time permits.
